Brainstorm for final music video

In today's lesson we had to brainstorm ideas for our final music video. My ideas were the points in red.

Some of the points as a group we suggested included a pop genre as we had used this in our practise task and we felt that this was a type of genre that we were all interested in. For our final music video we could either choose to do a music video from an artists album which they hadn't already done a music video for or use a song which is 10 years old. After doing some research we found Natalie Imbruglia's song torn was over 10 years old. We then checked to see how long the song was, as we had trouble with our practise music video when it came to making the storyboard for every scene. The song was 4:06, another thing we checked was that it wasn't to hard to lip sync otherwise we would have trouble editing it. Other suggestions we came up with included No Doubt's - don't speak however we felt the video was to long and it wasn't a song that we all knew which meant it would be harder to learn. We also looked at doing a boy band but as me, Hannah and Isobel are girls we thought it would be easier to just use us 3 as we wouldn't know who to use and when they were available. Overall i am happy with our final song choice although we had debated on other songs i think this one would work the best for the music video.

This is the song we will be using for our final music video.

Eliza Doolittle music video - Evaluation

This is my groups evaluation of our practise music video. We decided to use a picture on picture so that people could see the music video as we were talking. Some of the points we included was what we went well and what we think we could improve. Although the evaluation over ran a little, we did include a lot of points such as we need to be aware of things in the background and also the fact that i was chewing gum which is something i wont do it in the real thing, but at the time i completely forgot about it. Things we liked included the start when there was lots of different angles of me walking downstairs and also the recurring stairs theme of me leaving to go to University as the narrative. Overall i think the evaluation went well and was detailed which is what we will make sure we do in the real thing as well.

Practise task - Eliza Doolittle big when i was little

In today's lesson we had to plan, record and edit us lip syncing a real song. One thing we all agreed on if we did it again is plan the video word for word with the song as we felt like we didn't have enough clips to include in the video. Some of the part's i liked included the small and large feet.

As we based our theme about someone leaving home as the song is by Eliza Doolittle - big when i was little we felt using the idea of small and large feet would work well with the song. Also as a group we wanted to make sure that we did a lot of cuts as a lot of music videos do have quick cuts as they know the audience would get bored if it was constantly the same part clip.

Another part of the video i also liked is myself leaving at different angles as this meant that we didn't have to keep the same clip for a long period of time as the intro is quite long and this wouldn't be entertaining for the audience.

Some of the area's we felt we could improve is the umbrella scene we felt went on to long, but as we didn't have enough clips we had to, to cover the whole song. This is now something we are aware of when we have to do the real thing that we don't do. I also personally don't like the box scene as the idea was to get a larger box and although the pictures would work the box itself didn't help us to link in with the song. This was due to the lack of materials we had in School, when we do our final video we know we are going to use proper materials. Overall i am happy with how the video came out as this software is different to the software used on the lip sync which meant that none of us had used it before. When it now comes to the real video i think we could use the software a lot better and add a lot more effects.

This was our final practise video.

Photo's of location for practive music video

Due to this music video being a practise we only chose locations within the School. To make our video more interested we used locations that may not necessarily be used this included the stairs. The lighting was good in that particular location , and it was also quite their so people were less likely to interrupt our filming.
These are the stairs i sat on when i lip-synced the song. We thought that this would be an original place as after looking at the actual music video she didn't use places you would constantly expect e.g. street.

This is also the top of the stairs where i lip-synced the song. As this was only the preliminary task we didn't consider location a lot which is something we learnt we need to do for the real music video.

Lip sync practise video

In today's lesson we recorded and edited a practise lip sync. This involved three people from my group to lip sync Taylor Swift's -22 song. I think the editing of the lip sync when really well as the majority of the song matches the video. However i think in the future we will need to actually record in different places otherwise the music video would seem boring and wouldn't be realistic enough to compete with real music videos. Overall i think this is a good first attempt as the majority of us had never used the editing software before.

Preliminary task storyboards

Before we create our music video we had to come up with ideas of what we wanted to include. The song we chose is Eliza Doolittle - Big when I was little. I presented our storyboard on photo snack this is the link; http://www.photosnack.com/95F6CBC7C6F/phc90p3m. Some of the storyboards aren't so clear so I have posted them below as well.
As we have got a lot of cuts I have also used storyboard that and come up with a brief outline of what the video will consist of;

The brief

For my A2 Coursework the brief is; A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with a digipak for the album's release; and a website homepage for the artist.
